This is our first ride over night. We are heading form Marstrand/Sweden to the island Anholt/Denmark. We have been there last year and especially the children are eager to visit that beautiful and very sandy place again. But since storm warnings are released for the following days, we either make the 76 NM tonight or skip Anholt, which would be absolutely impossible.....
One last view on the skerry...
...after a short while we reach the Skagerak ....
The children are preparing a message in a bottle...
It would have been nice, if the wind would have come from the right direction with perfect strength for this long journey....but the wind prefers to be weak, alternating and then going to sleep....that will be a long, long journey.....
It becomes evening. The children are going to bed. I follow them a little later and Wolfgang is on deck keeping watch.
In some distance there are lights of wind wheels. There are no other ships around, only far far away he sees the light of the big cargo ships taking their route on the main sea lanes.
At 3:00 am Wolfgang is wakening me just before we arrive in Anholt. It is already getting light again. As expected, the harbor is full to the brim. But the poor Hugo has to get out of the boat and find a tree....it is urgent... The only free spots are at the quay for the fisher boats. We moor here as an interims solution, letting the dog jump out quickly. Instantly we are informed, that we are not allowed to stay here, by a friendly guy in his pajamas. We are able to convince him, that it is a real emergency situation and promise to leave ASAP.
With the dog back on board, we move to the outer harbor and let the anchor fall. Now it is my turn to stay on watch and Wolfgang falls in his berth.
The sun is rising.....
At 6:00 am the first ships are leaving the harbor and we can quickly slip in a free box. While Wolfgang returns to sleep, Hugo and me are taking a long stroll at the beach at early sunlight. It is a beautiful morning..... until my clever dog comes up with the bright idea to catch a lion's mane jellyfish...that burning in his mouth will keep him busy the whole morning :-(
After this long journey we are going to stay here until tomorrow.
The plan is to hike to the seal beach at the other side of the island to watch seals.
Between us and the seals are 11km land, which we have to cross.
We hike through open forest.....
...blooming meadows....
....we pass some lonely houses...
.....visite the village with the school....
..and the small church....
We have to cross dunes at the inner island.
Right behind the lighthouse are the seals suppose to be.
There! The tiny black points at the tip of the land tongue, ARE the seals....You can not get any closer, since the area is protected as nature reserve, but there is a little hut with a telescope allowing to observe them at least a bit...
After a total of 22 km we are back at the harbor and all of us are proud, that we made it back through all that sand with aching legs and feet....
