The Ending....

The ending of our summer vacation 2016 was not that spectacular....We anchored that night at the island Avernako/Denmark but felt very exhausted after another windy day, so we slept early and left the next day for Sonderborg, where we safely arrived on 08/13/2016.
It was a wonderful journey and we were very excited that we made it up to Norway, but to tell the truth, the 8-9 days of our vacation were rather exhausting. Anyway I took just a couple of weeks where we sticked to claiming that next year we are not going to sail ever that far in that kind of short time. But retrospective romanticization already started and plans for next years journey begin to form....;-) let's wait and see how far North we are going to sail then :-)

Harbolle/Denmark - 08/09/2016

Well, it was another day with lots of uncomfortable strong wind.....We were happy in the evening to reach the slightly calmer Groensund. For the night we stayed in Harbolle which is kind of a suburb of Vardingborg.

Rodvig/Denmark - 08/08/2016

It was a tedious way to Rodvig. It was still very windy with 7 Beaufort and the wind was still coming from South-Southwest. We were just happy when we crossed the Kobe-Bay, saw the limestone cliffs of Stevens Klint and finally reached the harbor.
The village Rodvig is more or less a suburban region. In former times it was very famous for it's flintstone.
We like this place especially because of it's excellent Thai restaurant directly at the harbor front :-)

Dragor/Denmark - 08/07/2016

The weather wasn't really that bad the other day, but it was actually awfully windy....and the wind came directly from the front....well we decided to go by engine this time, but still it was rough and the waves were shaking us....maybe it would have been easier to tack....anyway we made it to Dragor this day.
Dragon is a very beautiful historical village close to Copenhagen. In former times the pilots were stationed here. Before the Oresund Bridge was built, connecting Copenhagen with Malmö/Sweden the ferries landed here as well.
I guess it is much calmer these days, but we enjoyed the peaceful holiday atmosphere a lot. There are some decent restaurant just at the harbor.
The Copenhagen airport is rather close and in the evening we sit at the very end of the harbor mole and watched the air planes arriving one after the other. While we sat there a seal was swimming just past the harbor entrance....Actually we like Dragor a lot :-)

Louisiana Museum of Modern Art / Denmark - 08/06/2016

The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art is on of the best museums I ever visited! First it is a the very distinct architecture of the building, the exhibitions are very broad and cover a whole lot of Modern Art History and the whole museum is surrounded by a lovely park, where as well artifacts can be seen. We absolutely enjoyed our stay there!

Humlebaek/Denmark - 08/06/2016

The very next harbor to Helsingor is Humlebaek, just about 30 minutes drive...When we had to leave Helsingor because there was no free space for us, we very lucky, that the harbor master of Humlebaek just awaited and led us to an open place at the inner harbor side.
Humlebaek is a very decent harbor, small but well visited without being crowded. The bicycles are for free and the children stretched their legs after the long sea-journey of yesterday.
The very best of this harbor is, that it is just adjacent to the famous Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, which was one of the best museums I ever visited: See next post ;-)

Helsingor/Denmark - 08/05/2016

The weather forecast predicted heavy storm from west at the Kattegat for at least the next week.....we either made it that day to the Öresund or we would have sticked to the West Swedish coast until the storm is over. In that case we would have hardly made it to Sonderborg. So not much choices... It took 21 hours at Beaufort 7 to get to Helsingor. The worst part was the entrance of the Oresund when 2-3 meter waves were coming from behind and I felt like we will never ever reach a harbor again.
And when we finally reached Helsingor at 4:30 am no place way available for Frida. I absolutely did not expect that, since Helsingor is a rather big harbor. But boxes are narrow and Frida needs a little more space than Marita did.....
Finally we moored to a reserved place and grabbed a few hours of sleep. When we felt awake again, it was just about the time the legitimate owners of the box arrived, so we headed out to the next harbor....

Rörö/Sweden - 08/04/2016

We left Denmark-Ulön very early that morning, since this beautiful skerry is not very protective because it is rather flat. The wind became stronger that night and Wolfgang felt that we might be too close to the rocks. Therefore we made it to Rörö, an outer skerry close to Gothenburg.
Rörö is of absolutely beautiful nature!

Goats in the morning....

We wake up early in the morning and the children had to jump out of the boat immediately, since we had visitors for breakfast.....
There are a few dozen goats on Haoya and their milk is processed at the local cheese dairy we visited yesterday.
Although our two guest might have hope for something better, the children sticked to what the very friendly lady at the dairy explained to us....
